QUICKIE OF THE WEEK: A short interview with Recreated

written by Marko Jakob

Pix666: Hey guys. The most important question right at the beginning. Are you well and are you healthy?

Recreated: (Erik) Hello. Yes we are stronger than ever before (I recently squatted 175kg). None of us in the band has been (knock on wood), hope you are well too!

Pix666: What was the decisive point for you to become a musician? Which musical idols do you have and what are your current favourite bands?

Recreated: (Erik) Metallica was one of the main reasons I started playing guitar and they are still a big influence.  I listen to a lot of different stuff, but I have a technical metal phase at the moment so a lot of Archspire.

(Elias) For me it started as a kid playing the trumbone. But when I had the chance to try out the drums in school I got hooked, I knew it was what I wanted to do. Sitting behind the kit just made me forget anything else, I was one with the music, an amazing feeling. One of my idols are Daniel Erlandsson from Arch Enemy, the way his drums sounds, he deserves more credit than he gets! I have a phase of switching between atmospheric black metal, technical death and melodeath, choosing one of each I would say Deafheaven, Cattle Decapitation and Soilwork.

(William) Metallica was my inspiration for starting to play the bass guitar and they will always be my favorites. Nowadays, I listen mostly to melodic metal such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, In Flames, and Sabaton.

Pix666: Recently your new single “Væringr” has been released. What does the title or the name “Væringr” mean?

Recreated: (William) Væringr is an Old Norse name for the Northmen who travelled east during the Viking Era. The most famous ones are the ones who took service with the Byzantine Emperor. Fierce, loyal, and respected warriors. Therefore, a perfect name for a “call to arms” song.

Pix666: A video clip has also been released for the single. The Clip has reached over 20,000 views on YouTube in a very short time. How satisfied are you with the clip itself and also with the response of the fans?

Recreated: (Erik) It’s always amazing to get response of something you have poured your heart into. It is amazing to read every comment and hear what people think. We love the support! 20K is cool, but its like a drug! Now we want to reach higher and bigger crowds! But it’s a good indication that we have done something right.

Pix666: Will there be more, new songs this year? Will there maybe even be an album?

Recreated: (William) Yes, in co-operation with Rexius Records we will release our first full length album Evila on September 24th. It is proper melodic death metal, perfect for those who love that style of Swedish music! Honestly, who doesn’t?

Pix666: Have you played streaming concerts in the past months??

Recreated: (William) Not yet. We have focused on the album, but you never know. We are always willing to try something new.

Pix666:When will your next concerts with an audience take place, and do you think that these dates can be kept?

Recreated: (William) Because of Corona we have nothing booked as for now. We are currently in preparations so that we can play as much as possible when the opportunity arrives. If you know someone who needs an opening act let us know!

Pix 666: How are your friends and families? How do you stay in touch with them, what kind of technics do you use?

Recreated: (William) Since we are not in quarantine in Sweden we can actually meet friends and families, if we take precautions.

Pix666: You are from Sweden – you deal with the Corona crisis differently than in many other countries. What is the general mood in the country regarding the Corona crisis and do people at your place talk about the strict measures in other countries, what is the opinion about that?

Recreated: (William) Of course Sweden tries to do things differently. It is part of our national chauvinistic culture, we know what to do and others do not. It is similar to the “Principal Skinner” meme. “Am I out of touch? No it is the kids who are wrong”.

It is not just Corona, it was the same with the migration politics. “If others do what we do then it will work”. However, when you see that things work better in other countries you become resentful and bitter towards the establishment. *Insert “Why can’t you just be normal”-meme*.

At the same time, you have people who barely have changes their lives and students who are partying as if there was no pandemic. This leniency, both of the establishment and some people, is resulting in bitterness and resentfulness, which is always a great foundation for further disunion.

Pix666: Do you believe that this crisis will change the behaviour of humanity in the future?

Recreated: Hopefully, people will be more hygenic, wash their hands better, and stay at home when feeling just a bit sick. Maybe this can reduce the impact of flues in the future.

Pix666: What things, apart from being live on stage, do you miss the most at the moment?

Recreated: (Erik) Stage is a big part but. Since we have a different approach here in Sweden life is almost same. I miss going out to town and concerts… I was looking forward to seeing Rammstein this summer for the first time but its postponed to next year. But now we might open for them if we have some luck.

Pix666: Do you have any other news about Recreated that you would like to share with the fans?

Recreated: (William) More videos are coming on our Youtube channel so be sure to subscribe and follow us on Facebook so that you do not miss out!

Pix666: Thank you very much for the interesting insights into your present life and much success with the new songs – Stay healthy! Hope to see you on tour – sometime.
