Pix666: You started out as a cover band, and you are currently still covering songs in your performances, specifically, HIM’s ‘For You’ and ‘Your Sweet 666’ which are very well received by audiences. What was your inspiration in starting a band and do you listen privately to the music you play as cover songs?
George: Hello and thank you for this interview! Also thank you for your kind words. We were always fans of artists like The 69 Eyes, Deathstars, Rammstein, Diary Of Dreams, Lacrimas Profundere and of course HIM. We grew up with this kind of music. Goth mixed with rock or metal, and this was the main reason we started this band back in 2006. Now that we are older we listen to many music genres, from synthpop to metal and even Greek music and darkwave. The music we listen to in private does not influence the musical style of the band
Pix666: You have filmed and produced high quality videos like ‘Lady Cry’ and ‘Terminate Me’ which have more than 100,000 views on YouTube. Who has the ideas for these great videos? Is such a video shoot fun or just more work for you?
George: Thank you! Yes, those videos were released for the promotion of our third album “Grave Party” and I personally think they are the best we ever made (amongst 2 or 3 more) so the many views are justified! Those two mentioned videos; story-wise they were my ideas but they don’t always appear exactly as planned in video, because we do not use storyboards or a screenwriter, we just express our ideas to the director and the actors. We try to get over the storyline the best way we can and this can be really hard work because we have to shoot the band as a whole and then each member separately and then more pick up shots, and finally the story as well. It usually takes a whole day straight of preparation and shooting without a break for anyone. It is fun but mostly it’s exhausting.
Pix666: George, recently it was your 35th birthday – a very good age for a musician. What are your plans for the future with SadDoLLs? With which bands would you like to share the stage in the future and at which festivals would you like to perform?
George: Hahha, you think so? Great! For the near future we only have one more festival booked for the beginning of April called “Dark Malta Festival” and then we will concentrate maybe in producing a brand new single to be released by the end of 2019 accompanied of course by a music video. Then we will maybe dig into more shows and festivals – we would love to play at WGT at some point, Dark Castle, Hexentanz Festival, M’era Luna if we are lucky… time will tell. Playing shows with Deathstars, Rammstein, The 69 Eyes (again) and maybe Ville from HIM at some point would be great!
Pix666: Thank you for the short interview and good luck for the future.
