QUICKIE OF THE WEEK: A short interview with Bini Silvennoinen (BLAME ME!)

written by Marko Jakob

Pix666: Hello Bini. Thanks for your time. How are you doing these days, are you alive and well? How are the other guys of the band?

Bini: Hi! I’m so happy to share some thoughts of our newest single with you. I’m glad the winter is soon coming to an end. It has been a little hectic and exciting preparing material for our upcoming releases! I believe everyone in our band is eager to start making new music, but quite frustrated with the pandemic.

Pix666: Please introduce your band to the readers in a few short sentences. What kind of music do you make, where and how did the band members meet?

Bini: Our band is a weird combo of different people who still somehow manage to work well together. Blame Me! is a Modern Alternative rock firecracker with strong metal influences. We want to make music that sounds good without being restricted by any specific genre rules.  As a band we have met through friends. It took a few changes to find our current members, but now after 2,5 years we are stronger than ever.

Pix666: What was your inspiration to become a musician? Who are your idols?

Bini:  I’ve always been inspired by strong female figures in music, such as Jessi Frey from Velcra, Hayley Williams from Paramore. At the moment I highly look up to  artists like Halsey and Lauren Tate, who are making music they like, breaking norms and being their own individual selves in their music. I love women who are not afraid to do what they want.

Pix666: Some weeks ago the video clip ‚Toxic‘ was released. Where did you shoot the clip? Who was part of the team and were there any complications during the shoot due to certain Corona restrictions?

Bini: ‚Toxic‘ music video was shot on a cold winter day at a dance studio in Helsinki. We had a very small production crew, our bassist Juho directed it and we had our Camera Operator Antti Kankaanpää shooting us the whole day.

Pix666: Your debut album will be released soon. When exactly is the release date?  In which versions can the fans buy your album, and above all, is it possible to pre-order it somewhere??

Bini: The release date of our debut album “The Invisible You” is still not set, but our aim is to release it during the first half of the year. We are planning on creating a physical copy in addition to the digital version of the album. The pre-order options will be presented at a later date.

Pix666: How do you create your songs – who is responsible for what and what topics do you deal with in your lyrics?

Bini: Our guitarist Jesse is the mastermind behind our music. He is an extraordinary visionaire who’s always testing new things and always creating something amazing. He usually creates the atmosphere and the basis for the song. I write the lyrics and the singing melodies and we put those all together with the band and our producer Rami Nykänen.

All lyrics are based on personal experiences. I like to base lyrics on reality, display the feelings of sorrow and loss. Even though many of our songs are sad, I always want to add some positive tones and glimpses of hope to them. Like in life nothing is black and white, and also on the bottom of the ocean there’s pearls to be found. I want people to listen to our lyrics and be able to adapt it to their own lives.

Pix666: When you release an album and then you cannot play the songs live in front of an audience, it’s a pretty stupid situation. Do you have a streaming event planned as an option, or do you think there will be concerts with an audience again soon?

Bini: We have some plans for a show but it’s not set to a stone yet. We’ll monitor the situation and see if there’s something we can do to make it work.

Pix666: What is the current situation regarding the pandemic in Finland and especially the mood among the people?

Bini: The third wave of Covid19 is hitting us hard at the moment, but we are trying to stay optimistic. Luckily our band members are working on fields that are not directly affected by the set restrictions. All gigs are cancelled at the moment, but we are hoping that slowly we’ll be able to get some.

Pix666: As a musician, you certainly spend most of your time creating music – but what else do you do in your free time when you want to get your mind off things – are there any interesting hobbies that you pursue? 😊

Bini: I really love playing board games, that is one of my favorite things to do with my friends. I also watch a lot of movies and I have a sweet spot for Anime. I like to try different things and go on adventures, life is too short to just stay put.

Pix666: Do you have any other news that you would like to share with the fans?

Bini: Our next single is going to be released on 16.4.2021 and I believe it is going to be quite unexpected, but hopefully in a good way. We are super proud of it and we hope that you will love it as much as we do!

Pix666: Thank you very much for the interesting answers – Good luck with the Album and stay healthy!!!
