QUICKIE OF THE WEEK: A short interview with Maria Mar (OMNIMAR)

written by Marko Jakob

Pix666: Hello Maria. The most important question right at the beginning. Are you well and are you healthy? And how’s Alex? Many greetings to him.

Maria: Hello and thank you for asking. We are luckily fine and healthy at the moment. Me and several more people from our crew had a long unusual flue that is thankfully over since several weeks but now we are ok and we don’t break isolation mode for maybe 2 months..
Thanks and hugs back from Alex too;)

Pix666: You are from Russia – what is the general mood in the country?

Maria: I think just like everywhere the general mood is not very optimistic. Many people are going crazy when they are imprisoned within 4 walls, being unable to hang out with friends or visit a performance of their favourite band. Additional troubles come because of income decrease as many people are loosing their jobs. Just like everywhere. Most of my friends feel pretty ok and stay optimistic, being able to still work partly and distantly, taking this time as a kind of vocation, fulfilling different creative plans that were waiting on a shelf for a long time. Russia entered the main quarantine later than many others so we were better informed and prepared.

Most of Moscow citizens like in any huge megalopolis live in small dark flats and feel really uncomfortable this times. On the other hand many of Russians have little country houses called Datchas far from civilization and its pleasures. So do I and luckily spend most of this time in the woods.

Pix666: Did you have to postpone or cancel many of your planned concerts?

Maria: Not really, initially we didn’t plan any gigs for 2020 because we wanted to fully focus on the album and now we certainly have all chances to finish it very soon.

Pix 666: You had some fantastic performances last year, also at famous festivals in Germany. How much do you miss being on stage these days?

Maria: Glad to hear you liked it! yes, we spent awesome, fantastic time in Germany last year, gigs and several days off, these memories warm my heart today and of course i miss festivals and stage a LOT.

Pix666: Your last album ‚Poison‘ was released three years ago. Do you use the current situation to write new songs – will a new album maybe be released earlier than originally planned or does it make no sense to release an album at all at this time?

Maria: yes, as I said we thankfully working hard on the new album and its 85% ready, and we actually have many new songs for next releases already. Of course it makes sense to release things more often in any times. People still need their artists, because they need more inspiration nowadays, even if they can donate less they have more time for music now.

Pix666: How do you stay in contact with the fans? Are there any actions or live stream concerts planned?

Maria: Unfortunately we cant do a normal live concert because we cant meet with the band.., its an epidemic culmination now in Moscow so everyone is strictly locked. But of course we do some chatting streams with fans from time to time. Also we will take part in a great online-festival with a new acoustic work and an interview in the end of May, more infos tba soon.

Pix666: How are your friends and families? How do you stay in touch with them, what kind of technics do you use?

Maria: in our digital century not much really changes about communication with friends and relatives. We stay with our beloved ones together now and we are able to finally spend more time with them. The same with music productions – We got used to work distantly, we are an electronic project so its even easier to do it online.

But honestly saying here in the woods where im locked the Internet is really bad, sometimes it disappears completely, so to continue work Alex has to send me materials with bears… but the bears must sleep in winter and in summer it just takes too long for them to go 100 km. That actually explains why our album releases are so rare and long to expect.

Pix666: Do you believe that this crisis will change the behaviour of humanity in the future?

Maria: Sure. I believe people will become more careful, cautious.. hopefully start checkicking their health and learn what they can do if not to avoid but to struggle most viruses faster and easier. They will finally learn to wash their hands thoroughly. The survived ones.

Pix666: What things, apart from being live on stage, do you miss the most at the moment?

Maria: I’m an introvert. So I’m 100% happy. No jokes.

Pix666: Do you have any other news about Omnimar that you would like to share with the fans?

Maria: Well, i can’t even tell how many ideas for new music videos have been accumulated since the quarantine started, they can hardly fit in my head. So i plan to do all possible to bring most of them to life soon and create videos for many songs on the new album. And of course we will plan tourings as soon as it will be possible. Time flies so we see us very soon!

Pix666: Thank you very much for the interesting insights into your present life – Stay healthy!

Maria: Thank you so much and take care as well🖤
