QUICKIE OF THE WEEK: A short interview with Jason Thomas (Dark Divine)

written by Marko Jakob | 03.02.2022 |

Pix666: Hello Jason. Thanks for your time. How are you doing these days, are you alive and well?

Jason: Absolutley. Alive and Kicking!

Pix666: Your band Dark Divine was formed in 2021. Please introduce your band to the readers in a few short sentences and how and where did you find the cool guys for the band?

Jason: We are Dark Divine, A hard rock band from Orlando Florida. We basically are all from other bands in the area that decided we wanted to do something a bit different from what everyone else was doing. We are all spooky kids at heart and couldn’t think of a better way to express that vibe than to incorporate it in to the music we create. Not everything we do is like this but the vibe is always there, as it’s just the way we write music together.

Pix666: What kind of experience have you had before in other bands and projects?

Jason: For me personally I’ve also been in more “numetal” style projects but everyone one in this band has such a diverse backrounds from metalcore, deathcore, and even operatic metal.

Pix666: In October 2021 your debut single ‘Halloweentown’ was released. How were the fans’ reactions to your first song?

Jason: WELL…. You could say we definitely weren’t expecting such a positive reaction. We knew being a brand new band would immediately make us the subject of comparisons to other bands we sound similar to, and because the first release was in October we chose to release Halloweentown almost as a marketing gimmick, knowing full well that people may think it was completely cheesy. But the overwhelming majority of feedback was super positive and for our first independent release it was most definitely a success.

Pix666: Now the second single ‘The Fear’ was released at the beginning of the year – a really fantastic song. I can imagine that your fans are waiting for more songs now. Will there be a complete album from Dark Divine soon? How far has the work on more songs progressed?

Jason: Yes we are currently slated to start recording the next batch of singles at the end of this month and will be looking to continue the recording process into the summer. As far as an album goes, it will def happen in the future but most likely it will be mostly singles that will be on the album and then maybe 3-4 tracks released at once with all the previously released songs from the last year. This is the most cost effective way for us to do this while still getting music out there for everyone to hear.

Pix666: Are there already any plans for a tour?

Jason: We are currently in a contest that would place us on tour with Escape the Fate and end with us playing the main stage at rockiville 2022 if we win. For now this is our only news on a possible tour.

Pix666: What inspires you to write your music – where do you get the ideas for your lyrics and who is responsible for what in the band in the songwriting process?

Jason: What we have found works best for that process is letting our drummer and singer work on the vocals once the music is mostly written. I write the music ( guitars bass synths basic drums electronics etc) then I give it to everyone for them to add their flare to each song. Then once the vocals are added we all get together and make and changes we think could enhance the track.

Pix666: How important is styling, social media presence and marketing for you besides the music?

Jason: I would say it has become just as important as the music if not more. To gain exposure you almost have to be an influencer first and band second. Its definitely been a learning process but we are excited to learn more about it and apply it to our image and style.

Pix666: Is there anyone in the band who likes to look at your stats on Spotify and YouTube? Do you know which countries your listeners mainly come from?

Jason: YES!  So far this year…. Germany has been our biggest fans and we couldn’t be more thankful for that. The USA, Russia, Finland, and the UK are also way up there as well.

Pix666:  The members of Dark Divine have shared the stage with many well-known bands in the past. Tell me a little bit about your dreams for your new band…. In which locations or at which festivals would you like to perform and with which band(s) would you like to go on tour in the future?

Jason: Ideally we would love to get on a tour with one of the bands we look up to and play the big fests here in the states like Inkcarceration, Rockville, Knotfest etc . Touring with Black Veil Brides, Motionless, and Ice Nine Kills on their new tour would be a dream come true as well!

Pix666: As a musician, you surely spend most of your time creating music – but what else do you do in your free time when you want to distract yourself – are there any interesting hobbies you pursue?

Jason: We all love movies and you can catch any of us at the theater whenever a new horror film drops!

Pix666: Do you have any other news about Dark Divine that you would like to share with the fans?

Jason:
The 2 new singles we are recording should be out sometime in late april/ early may so keep an eye out for that and make sure to follow us on all of our socials as we like to go live on Instagram once a week to interact with you.

Pix666: Thank you very much for the interesting answers – Good luck for the future and stay healthy!
