QUICKIE OF THE WEEK: A short interview with Mathias and Justin (WAVERED)

written by Marko Jakob | 30.03.2022 |

Pix666: Hello Justin, hey Mathias. Thanks for your time. How are you doing these days?

Justin: Hey guys! Thanks for having us, glad the world is slowly going back to normal.

Pix666: Your band WAVERED was formed in 2020. Please introduce the band to the readers in a few short sentences.

Justin: I’d say we’re a metalcore/ post-hardcore band that loves the heavy stuff but also has a soft spot for more melodic tracks.

Pix666: What kind of experience have you had before in other bands and projects?

Mathias: I’ve played in quite a few bands in the past, started out as a drummer and then transitioned into doing vocals instead. For me the previous bands I’ve been in had great ambitions but not enough drive to get anywhere, but at the same time they paved the way for me to meet Justin. And now when we have WAVERED. I feel like we’ve become a real dream-team with the tools and potential to get to where we want to be.

Justin:
I’ve been in a few bands over the last decade with the most recent being, “IN VICE VERSA”. After being through all those bands, WAVERED has felt like home. Mathias and I are on the same wavelength and everything just falls into place. It’s great.

Pix666: In August 2021 your debut single ‘Life Doesn’t Always Greet You With Roses’ was released. How were the fans’ reactions to your first song?

Mathias: The response so far has been nothing but mindblowing and amazing! Can’t be anything else but grateful.

Justin: We honestly never really expected a response at all being a tiny new band with near zero following. It’s been incredible to see the positive response so far.

Pix666: Now the third single ”The Colour Of Rain Reminds Me Of Us” was released a few weeks ago – a really fantastic song. I can imagine that your fans are now waiting for more songs. Will there be a complete album from WAVERED soon? How far has the work on further songs progressed?

Mathias: We are working on an album that we plan to release in a unique way, can’t say too much about it yet but we do have quite a few songs that are well on their way already.

Pix666: Meanwhile, your songs and videos have a considerable number of views and streams. Is there anyone in the band who likes to look at your stats on Spotify and YouTube? Do you know which countries your listeners mainly come from?

Justin: I’m a sucker for nerdy stats! The United States have consistently been the main audience on both platforms since our debut.

Pix666: How much time does it actually take to shoot a video clip? I think it’s a lot of work, isn’t it?

Mathias: If you refer to music videos then yes, it’s definitely a lot of work. For our debut we went with a fairly simplistic way of shooting it. But even so it took about 3 days to finish shooting all of the scenes. We also spent quite some time with prep stuff like writing the storyboard etc.

Justin: These things definitely take more time being a DIY independent band.

Pix666: What inspires you to write your music – where do you get the ideas for your lyrics and who is responsible for what in the band in the songwriting process?

Mathias: For me I find inspiration in many different avenues, but my lyrics are typically based on real life experiences I’ve had and hardships I’ve endured. Justin usually writes the instrumentals for our tracks and I write the vocals, but we do both give input and feedback so that everything gets to a point where we are both happy. So in a way I like to see it as we write the tracks together as a unit. Justin also helps me sometimes with parts of the lyrics and vocal structure whenever I’m unhappy or stuck with a section.

Pix666: Are there already any plans for concerts or a tour in 2022?

Justin: Tour plans aren’t really on the table right now. We’re focusing on getting our debut album out later this year!

Pix666: As musicians, you surely spend most of your time creating music – but what else do you do in your free time when you want to distract yourself – are there any interesting hobbies you pursue?

Mathias: Gaming and spending time with friends helps me stay sane. Apart from that I really love web design, building computers and other nerdy tech stuff.

Justin: Fitness is a big part of my life. Really helps clear the mind for new inspiration.

Pix666: Do you have any other news about WAVERED that you would like to share with the fans?

Justin:
We have plans for the second half of the year. Definitely keep a look out! Don’t forget about us too quick haha.

Pix666: Thank you very much for the interesting answers – Good luck for the future and stay healthy!
